can a beer feel as good as it tastes?

Inspired by the quinoa-barley brews of South America and her own functional health journey, our founder teamed up with two MIT Food Science friends to brew something entirely unexpected: a beer that was gluten free, sugar free, and made from a superfood-packed base.

Three years, more than a hundred experimental batches, and countless "wait... is this even scientifically possible" moments later, this motley crew accidentally became America's foremost experts in all-quinoa brewing, and finally proved that yes, a beer can feel as good as it tastes.

From the archives

“Meli is the drink I always wanted but could never find. And it’s the product of an incredible team that tirelessly pushed the boundaries of what a beer can be. I’m so excited to share it with you.”

SAMARA OSTER, FOUNDER

Meli means better. It was named for the latin word melior, and that never-ending quest for improvement is at our core. We like to be intentional in everything we do - so when you hold one of our cans or sip one of our beers, you can be sure that you are an extension of many years of experimentation, deliberation, and growth.

Our must-haves

our perspective

on mindful drinking

Drinking doesn't have to be a guilty pleasure. It can just be a pleasure. The kind you choose on purpose and pair with great conversation (or thoughtful contemplation). Mindful drinking isn't about rules or rigid restraint, it's about knowing what's in your glass and realizing that balance tastes pretty great.

our focus

Reinventing beer from the grain up

Beer doesn't have to stick to tradition just because "that's how it's always been." What if it could be brighter? Lighter? Better for our bodies, our communities, and our peace of mind? We follow curiosity where it leads, because reinvention isn't just about what we brew, it's about how we live, gather, and grow. It turns out pleasure and wellbeing make excellent drinking buddies.
